	Quality management systems were developed from the necessity to provide products to consumers which performed as they were designed on a consistent basis. Many managers and professionals still have this traditional concept of Quality in mind when the subject of Quality is discussed. 	Dinner Topic - Phil Rosenkrantz, Ed.D Presents A Deeper Look at the Six Stages of Quality System Implementation.
	The ability of an organization to effectively implement continuous improvement or quality management systems requires the transformation from a transactional culture to a transformational culture. Understanding the subtle differences between these two cultures is essential to leading the transformation. The focus of the presentation will be to model the differences in these two cultures using Hayes’ Six Stages of Quality System Implementation and show how this model aligns well with many current leadership philosophies and actually ties them together. One of the most frustrating things for AS 9100 certified companies is the cost to maintain and to stay current with AS 9100. The required internal audits, management review, CAR’s, etc. Can sometimes be very costly for small aerospace companies. And then on top of maintenance the Aerospace community is revising the AS 9100 requirements every 6 or 7 years. This again is an added cost to the AS 9100 certified companies.

Most companies do not realize that there is state, local and federal funding that can be utilized to offset the cost of the Rev.C transistion as well as the yearly maintenance of the AS 9100 system.

ISOReady has perfected a process to allow manufactures in the state of California to obtain this funding and to use this funding for both the AS 9100C transition and the annual maintenance of the Quality Management System.

	Clinic #2 - Jack Dhuwalia Presents FDA’s unpredictable path: Where is the FDA going? A fresh perspective.
	The presenter (Jack) was recently invited to address FDA’s senior staff including Dr. Jeff Shuren, Dir. CDRH, FDA, at a town-hall meeting. Dr. Shuren gave “hints” of where FDA might be heading on these important issues – Jack will share what he learned. Uncertainly comes from FDA’s unpredictable review process from what we’re seeing for the last two years. Small businesses/developers are being impacted because capital money has dried up: people are afraid to invest because there is no predictability in obtaining FDA clearances. Ideas will be presented to address where FDA might be heading and what the industry can do right now to get their products “cleared” in a predictable manner? This interactive session will explore possibilities and invite audience participation and ideas to a satisfactory conclusion. Takeaways: • Specific ideas to make the 510(k) application sound for getting it “cleared” quickly • Where is FDA going for “implantable” products requiring 510(k) • Why is FDA delaying so many applications?


	Dinner Topic - Laura Fleming Presents Social Media in the workplace: Know Your Rights!
	This presentation will focus on employee use of social media: whether employers can monitor what employees do on social media, and in particular, whether employers can fire employees for what they do on social media. As it turns out, only certain types of conduct in certain settings have legal protection. The answers may surprise you. Specifically, Labor Attorney Laura Fleming will talk about privacy rights, First Amendment rights, anti-discrimination laws, lifestyle protection laws, and the National Labor Relations Act as they all relate to employee use of social media. She will also touch on regulation of social media marketing by the FTC and FDA. You will learn answers to the following questions: • What are the risks associated with employee use of social media? • What are the “Best Practices” for social media policies? • When can employees be disciplined for what they post online? • Is the employer allowed to “google” job candidates?

RABQSA Lead Auditor Course: Medical Device

The ASQ Orange Empire Volunteer Audit Group is promoting to our section members

A 36-Hour RABQSA Certified ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor Course with Medical Device Focus (ISO 13485)

Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 12th – 16th, in Santa Ana, this course will be confirmed once a total of 6 people have committed. With 30-days advance registration of at least 6 attendees, the price will be discounted to $1445.00 per student.

This course is for anyone who wants to:

Learn the ISO 13485 standard
Learn how to perform and lead audits
Meet the QMS Lead Auditor training requirement for RAB Certification

This course satisfies the requirement for the QMS Lead Auditor training for ISO 9001 and AS9100 RAB certifications. (For further clarification email your questions to erin@califyconsulting.com.)

The course agenda states that participants will learn:

• How the ISO 9000 family of documents was developed
• How to interpret the ISO 13485:2003 requirements
• How to analyze audit results
• The ISO registration process
• Requirements for auditor certification
• The roles and responsibilities of auditors
• The application of the audit cycle

Students will need to furnish their own copy of the ISO 13485 standard and should familiarize themselves with it prior to taking the class. A continental breakfast will be provided each morning Monday-Friday, and lunch will be provided Monday-Thursday.
