<p>Program Overview<br />
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a graduating high school student in Orange County who demonstrates scholastic achievement through the pursuit of higher education. Up to five students will each be awarded a one-time scholarship of $1,000, which will be paid directly to an accredited university, college, vocational school, or junior college to which the student has been accepted. The scholarship recipients will also have an opportunity to visit the Edwards Lifesciences campus in Irvine.  At Edwards, we value our university talent, and as a result love to hear back from our schoalrship recipients for optential internship opportunities in the future!<br />
Scholarship applications need to be recieved by Edwards no later than Monday, May 21, 2012. The scholarship recipient will be notified by Tuesday, July 3, 2012, with the award being presented at the Edwards Lifesciences Quality Scholarship Award Ceremony on the Irvine campus Wednesday, August 15, 2012. </p>

<p>Eligibility and Qualifications<br />
The scholarship is open to high school seniors in the Orange County, California area. The applicant must be planning and eligible to continue his or her education at an accredited university, college, vocational school, or junior college within the 2012-2013 school year.<br />
Candidates must complete the scholarship application and submit a letter of recommendation. Students may receive the scholarship from Edwards only once.</p>
<p>Criteria for Selection<br />
Applicants will be evaluated through an essay on Quality. Scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities and letter of recommendation will also be considered. The application packet will be reviewed by a panel of judges.<br />

Application Instructions<br />
It is the responsibility of the applicant to complete all steps of the application procedure. No application will be considered complete until all information requested is provided. A complete application must contain the following items:<br />
•The completed Scholarship Application Form<br />
•An unofficial transcript at the time of submission of the applicant’s academic record<br />
•A resume/curriculum vitae outlining items such as community service, extracurricular activities or work experience<br />
•A letter of recommendation from a teacher/faculty, person from the community, or employer (but not a relative). See Recommendation Form<br />
•Quality essay<br />
- A minimum of 500 to a maximum of 1,000 words<br />
- The essay should discuss any aspect of Quality. Please see part 4 of the application for more detail. The content of the essay should be written independently and should not be copied from public domain.</p>

<p>Many organizations do not maximize the benefits they could achieve form the implementation and sustainment of a Quality Management System (QMS). As a consultant, I am shocked on the low level of the Return on Investment (ROI) that many organizations accept from their QMS. <p>Kim Victorine has over 15 years experience in developing, implementing, managing and improving management systems using continual improvement systems and methods like ISO 9000, AS9100, Total Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing. He started his career in Production Test &amp; Test Engineering with Hughes Aircraft Company – Ground Systems Group in Fullerton, CA. He has worked with over 150 Southern California manufacturing organizations as a Consultant with CMTC since 1998. He has held certifications as a Lead Auditor for Quality Management Systems (ISO 9000) and as an Aerospace Auditor (AS9100) from RAB/QSA. Presently he is working with clients developing strategies for growth, identifying opportunities to develop new products or services thru the use of innovation engineering methods, the continual improvement of management systems and operations using ISO 9000 based standards and lean manufacturing methods. He is a certified trainer/facilitator by Zenger-Miller and Achieve Global. He is currently pursuing a Black Belt in Innovation Engineering.</p>

<p>CMTC is the Southern California member of the US Department of Commerce and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s – Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST-MEP) program which served over 600 organizations in 2011.</p>

<h2>Annual WCQI to be Held May 21–23 in Anaheim, Calif.</h2>
<p><strong>Milwaukee, Wis., Jan. 19, 2012 —</strong> Executives from The Boeing Co. and The Coca-Cola Co. are among four keynote speakers featured at <a href="http://www.asq.org/" data-analytics-tracking="true">ASQ</a>’s 2012 World Conference on Quality and Improvement, held May 21–23 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.</p>
<p>The theme for this year’s <a href="http://wcqi.asq.org/" target="_blank" data-analytics-tracking="true">WQCI</a> is &#8220;Producing Results: Proven Solutions in Today’s Challenging World,&#8221; focusing on basic quality, globalization, best practices in supply chain management, managing risk, and changing technology.</p>
<p><a href="http://wcqi.asq.org/speakers.html" target="_blank" data-analytics-tracking="true">Keynote speakers</a> for the event include quality professionals, authors, and executives from world-renowned companies and organizations.</p>
<p><strong>James Albaugh, The Boeing Co. — Monday, May 21, 7:45 to 9:45 a.m.</strong></p>
<p>Jim Albaugh is executive vice president of The Boeing Co. and president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. He is responsible for all the company&#8217;s Commercial Airplanes programs and services, is a member of the Boeing Executive Council and serves as Boeing&#8217;s senior executive in the Pacific Northwest.</p>
<p>He is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and an elected member of the International Academy of Astronautics. Albaugh serves as board chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association. He was also named to Wings Club Board of Governors.<br />
Albaugh also is the recipient of other awards and sits on other boards of directors.</p>
<p><strong>Carletta Ooton, The Coca-Cola Co. — Monday, May 21, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.</strong></p>
<p>Carletta Ooton is vice president, chief quality, safety and sustainable operations officer for The Coca-Cola Co. She has overarching accountability for the policies and standards, audits, analytical services, food safety, customer quality, performance measures, and operations support delivered by the Global Quality organization.</p>
<p>Ooton joined The Coca-Cola Co. in 2006 and has more than 20 years of quality and operational experience. Before joining the company, she worked for Cott Beverages, Bath &amp; Body Works, Unilever, and Tate and Lyle.</p>
<p><strong>Simon Sinek, leadership expert, &#8220;Start With Why&#8221; author — Tuesday, May 22, 8 to 9 a.m.</strong></p>
<p>Simon Sinek is an author and leadership expert, training leaders and companies to inspire people.</p>
<p>Through his study of leaders and companies that make the greatest impact in the world, Sinek has discovered the formula that explains how they do it. The idea, named the Golden Circle, is grounded in the biology of human decision-making and is changing how leaders and companies think and act.</p>
<p>His book, &#8220;Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action,&#8221; was voted one of the best leadership books of 2009.</p>
<p><strong>Majora Carter, MCG Consulting — Wednesday, May 23, 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m.</strong></p>
<p>Majora Carter is the president of MCG consulting, a firm that since 2008 has provided climate adaptation, urban micro-agribusiness, and leadership development strategies for business, government, foundations, universities, and economically under-performing communities.</p>
<p>Carter pioneered one of the nation’s first urban green-collar job training &amp; placement systems, and spearheaded legislation that fueled demand for those jobs.</p>
<p>Carter has received numerous awards and honorary degrees for her activism, including awards from John Podesta’s Center for American Progress and a Liberty Medal for Lifetime Achievement from Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post.<br />
Carter hosts the Peabody Award-winning public-radio series &#8220;The Promised Land,&#8221; and serves on the boards of the U.S. Green Building Council, and The Wilderness Society.</p>
<p>In addition to the keynote speakers, <strong>Joseph A. DeFeo, president and CEO of Juran Institute</strong>, will be the featured speaker on <strong>Tuesday, May 22, from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.</strong></p>
<p>DeFeo is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on transformational change systems and breakthrough management principles. For nearly 25 years, DeFeo has worked as a Juran Executive Coach helping business leaders increase sales, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction through the deployment of process improvement programs, including Lean and Six Sigma, strategic planning and cultural transformation.</p>
<p>Mr. DeFeo is co-author of several books, including the go to resource for deployment leaders, &#8220;Juran’s Quality Handbook Sixth Edition, The Complete Guide to Performance Excellence.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Networking, other conferences part of event</strong></p>
<p>There are more than 100 sessions scheduled for the annual event, focusing on changing technology, managing risk, globalization, best practices in supply chain management, and basic quality.
